The Arkansas Department of Human Services is bracing for the economic fallout of the COVID-19 crisis, as state officials anticipate that a rapidly increasing number of Arkansans will rely on the state’s social safety net programs in the coming months.
As the COVID-19 crisis unfolds, the Arkansas Department of Human Services is relaxing certain policies that have led to the removal of tens of thousands of Arkansans from the state’s Medicaid rolls in recent years. Around 11,000 beneficiaries whose coverage was terminated at the end of last month have now been reinstated. Many more will be reinstated as the state works to implement guidance from the federal government.
Thanks to World Central Kitchen, the Clinton Foundation, the Little Rock School District and a broad coalition of local players, all Little Rock kids have access to free food on a daily basis.
The health department director also talks about the line he must walk between providing information and preventing people from panicking in the face of the pandemic.
